I’m wondering if there is any recruiter out there for the MCG volunteers!? We’ve been welcoming new volunteers every week and also receiving enquiries from people wanting to know how to join the garden! It’s so simple, just come along on any Sunday from 10am and put your name and contact details down on the register book and get to work! We appreciate a donation of $2 per person each time you come to the Sunday work bee and we share the joy of gardening, friendship and harvest of seasonal organic vegetables and herbs.
As the weather warms up, we can see signs of spring everywhere around the garden. Lovely pink and white sweet peas have started blooming and all plants are growing much quicker than a few months ago. Finally we can see new pods of broad beans too!
It was great to see North Sydney Mayor Jilly Gibson and her partner dropped in during their morning walk to have a chat with us. Larysa who joined us last week watered the whole garden single-handedly while Bruce and Vanessa worked around the garden trying to complete the tasks I’d written on the blackboard. Kate showed how to harvest sweet potatoes to 3-year old Hannah and her mother Yoriko who joined us this week. The mother and daughter team also worked on planting and harvesting. With the help from Cheralyn and her daughter Madisen we finished planting Nicola potatoes, and thanks to Susie we could feed plants with her worm wee again.
This year, Sunday, 10th November has been confirmed as “Spring in to Jazz” to be held at Milson Park. As always it will be a great fun for the whole family and friends gathering to enjoy a picnic with live music under the sun. As Milson Community Garden we are going to have a community BBQ with gourmet burgers, many thanks to Gordon and Kennards for donating the use of BBQ for the day as in last year! We’ll also be selling home made cakes and some seedlings to help raise fund for the garden. I know there are many great cooks and bakers among the MCG volunteers (not me) and I’m grateful that we’ve already received many offers for help for the event.
Thank you everyone for your contribution!
What a great harvest you had! And more of those yummy pink carrots.
